Sheriff's Alcohol Vendor Enforcement Symposium

  Over 100 alcohol outlet owners, staff and responsible beverage trainers attended the HCSO SAVE

Symposium held March 4th at Pepin Distributing, to learn about responsible vendor practices.

 

Underage Drinking Law Enforcement at Gasparilla

                                 The Gasparilla Day Parade was held in Tampa on January 26, 2008.

                       Law enforcement officers were out looking for underage drinkers. These young ladies

                       were given a notice to appear for underage possession of alcoholic beverages.

June 5, 2007 MADD Hillsborough Recognition Banquet

 

 

April 23, 2007 MADD Century Achievers Recognition Event

Tampa and Hillsborough County were well-represented at the 2007 MADD Century Achievers Recognition Event held at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center in Tallahassee. Fourteen Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies and thirteen Tampa Police officers were honored with MADD's Century Achiever's Awards for making 100 or more DUI arrests in 2006.  Assistant State Attorney Kim Seace of the 13th Judicial Circuit was presented with the Outstanding Prosecutor of the Year Award.  Linda Unfried received the Community Services Award, Tom Moore (Owner of Tom Moore Chevrolet) received the Community Partner Award, and Ellen Snelling was given the Youth Services Award .

 March 10, 2007 MADD Saturday Event

MADD Hillsborough celebrated its 24th anniversary with a safety event  at Tom Moore Chevrolet.  The event featured displays, literature and hands-on activities to educate the public about DUI and other traffic safety issues. Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was there with its Mobile Breath Testing Unit and McGruff, the crime fighting dog. The Florida Highway Patrol brought its Rollover Simulator.  Tampa Police Department was represented by Officer Randy Davis and his C.A.R.S. (Cops Against Racing on Streets) exhibit.  Temple Terrace Police Department fingerprinted children and brought K-9 dogs.  Tampa Alcohol Coalition provided underage drinking information. Tom and Pamela Moore donated money to MADD from each vehicle sale made during the entire month of March. It was a very successful collaboration, and Tom Moore has already begun planning for next year's event with MADD!

February 20, 2007 TAC meeting

The February TAC meeting was held at the Tampa Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.  Over 50 people attended. Deputy Scott Sitton gave a PowerPoint presentation on the successful HCSO Responsible Vendor Program. Sheriff Gee presented a plaque to the Tampa Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino management for reducing DUI incidents by 72%. Seminole Hard Rock credits the reduction to its responsible vendor training, alcohol policies and safe ride program.

               as well as the food and beverages provided by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel/ Casino.

December 5, 2006 TAC meeting  

TAC met on December 5th at University of Tampa. UT Dean of Students, Bob Ruday, and Gina Firth, UT Associate Dean of Students got front row seats. The guest speaker was Renee Napier. Ms. Napier spoke about the DUI crash that took her daughter Meagan's life and offered to make presentations to students and other groups in Tampa Bay.

TAC meeting on September 19, 2006

Florida House Representative Trey Traviesa participated in the September 19th TAC meeting and gave a presentation about state alcohol legislation, including a new bill that Rep. Traviesa sponsored. Effective October 1st, the new state law increases penalties for adults who provide alcohol to any person under age 21, adding driver's license suspension.

HCSO Named National Law Enforcement Partner of the Year

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was named the National Law Enforcement Partner of the Year by the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention during its National Leadership Conference on Reducing Underage Drinking last week in Baltimore.  Pictured here are: Chelsea Ottaway, Tampa Alcohol Coalition; Chris Osborne, Office of Drug Control; Sue Carrigan, Tampa Alcohol Coalition; Major Bill Davis, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office; Ellen Snelling, Tampa Alcohol Coalition; and Deputy Brian Pulido. 

Florida Recognized for Major Accomplishments

The State of Florida was recognized at the National Leadership Conference on Reducing Underage Drinking last week in Baltimore for its accomplishments.  The conference, sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), included workshops presented by the Broward County’s Latin American Coalition for the Prevention of Substance Abuse and the Tampa Alcohol Coalition.  Robin Peters, Office of Drug Control, was on hand to accept the honor for the following:

*  43 of 67 counties conducted Town Hall Meetings on Reducing Underage Drinking

*  Creation of the Governor's State Leadership Commission on Reducing Underage Drinking

*  Creation of the Law Enforcement Subcommittee of the Governor's State Leadership

   Commission

*  Creation of “Identifying Contributors to Alcohol Related Events” or ICARE program by the 

   Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco which tracks and punishes those

   who sell to minors and was launched in June.
